Program Description

The Visual Art Department at Germantown Academy is committed to providing a comprehensive education in the arts within the context of a liberal arts education. Our foundation and advanced curriculum is a well-rounded and versatile approach to the study and application of art. It is designed to provide a creatively stimulating education in an open environment of studio classes. Experimentation and innovation, collaboration and social responsibility are themes built into the curriculum. While these courses extend excellent opportunities for the general study of art and life-long arts advocacy, they are also designed to cultivate serious talents in the visual arts. Many of our students have gone on to prominent careers in commercial, fine, and applied arts.

Textile Designer Erin Stevens Visits Art Classes

Philadelphia University has been a leader in the textile industry since 1884. Our region has a vast history in the textile industry, but there are few people who are actually familiar with the field.

Last week, Erin Stevens ( graduate assistant in Textile Design) was at GA discussing the textile design profession with our painting, drawing, and sculpture students. According to Stevens, "This major is ideal for high school students with a love of art, fashion, design, or science. Philadelphia University's undergraduate program offers a Bachelors of Science degree with industry relevant technology in printing, weaving, and knitting. This degree is a marriage of creativity and artistic skill with technical design and innovation."

Dave Love Hosts Print Making Workshop for Area Educators

Dave Love is a a founding member of PLP-Prints Link Philadelphia, a group dedicated to nurturing the art of printmaking in young people. The members come from all over the region and provide an interesting cross section of educational institutions- private, charter and public schools and  diverse  ages from K-12. Love is Coordinating of  Professional Development charged with discovering educational opportunities for member teachers and sponsoring workshops to expose the members to new techniques and processes. These workshops are not only beneficial for teachers in that they expand their curricular options, but also keeps the teachers involved in the act of making art. The most recent PLP worksop was held here at GA. An upcoming exhibit at Tyler School of Art in March, features work from all the member institutions and teachers. Love reports "PLP has always made exhibiting part of its mission – and its just one of the reasons why  I love working with the group."

PhillyCam Internships


PhillyCAM offers internships to provide high school, college and graduate-level students an opportunity to learn professional methods of media production, non-profit program development and management, and the value of community-generated media.
PhillyCAM is a small non-profit organization that depends heavily on the work of its volunteers and interns. From donor database development work to remote video productions, there are a variety of learning experiences that can help people develop solid skills in the areas of digital video production/ post-production, media education, fundraising and event planning, and digital video distribution/social network marketing.
General Information: Interns are expected to work a minimum of 15 hours a week during an 8 to 10 week internship period. Internships are offered during the Summer, Fall, and Winter/Spring semesters. A documented agreement between PhillyCAM and the student’s educational institution must be made in order for the student to receive academic credit. All interns are subject to applicable PhillyCAM employee policies.
Internship Positions Available: PhillyCAM is currently seeking highly qualified students to assist in production and administration areas. These internships are ideal for individuals interested in gaining experience in non-profit arts administration and digital video production.
Eligibility: A candidate must be a high school, undergraduate or graduate student. Internships for high school students are only offered during Fall and Winter/Spring semesters. Students receiving academic credit or service-learning hours for their internship are strongly encouraged to apply.
Application Procedures: Candidates must complete an internship application form and submit it with a resume and cover letter, which clearly indicates why the student is interested in an internship at PhillyCAM. Applicants interested in assisting with production activities are required to submit a demo reel of his/her current media work. All application items must be submitted as a complete package. Incomplete applications will not be reviewed. Highly qualified candidates will be invited to meet with PhillyCAM staff members to discuss internship job details.

CRED Philly Call for Submissions


Have you art work and stories featured in CREDPhilly!
Greater Philadelphia Area residents and students ages 25 and under should submit artwork, creative essays, poetry, photography, and other awesome looking and meaningful things to The Portfolio section. There are no restrictions on number of submissions per person.
Submissions will be reviewed in an online youth voting session with all published work chosen by other submitting artists. Selected pieces will receive an honorarium and will be published for 30,000 people to see.
