Program Description

The Visual Art Department at Germantown Academy is committed to providing a comprehensive education in the arts within the context of a liberal arts education. Our foundation and advanced curriculum is a well-rounded and versatile approach to the study and application of art. It is designed to provide a creatively stimulating education in an open environment of studio classes. Experimentation and innovation, collaboration and social responsibility are themes built into the curriculum. While these courses extend excellent opportunities for the general study of art and life-long arts advocacy, they are also designed to cultivate serious talents in the visual arts. Many of our students have gone on to prominent careers in commercial, fine, and applied arts.

David Love "Musings and Meanderings"

Musings and Meanderings the new exhibition in the Art center Gallery by painting, printmaking, and drawing teacher David Love features a collection of mixed media prints and drawings that are among other things an investigation of form, the interaction of color, and deeply personal symbolism.  These small and large scale art works are at turns playful and dire, simple and complex. A master draftsman, Love has chosen a decidedly object and form oriented drawing style for this newest work, one that conjures allusions to graphic novels, pre-historic art, and late 20th century modernism.  The final installation in the exhibition is a collection of his drawings that span nearly a half century and give excellent context for this recent work and Love's development as an artist. On view in the gallery through March 21st.  A reception for the artist is scheuleded on March 9 from 3-5 pm.
